... let's talk about running. We haven't done much of that around here lately. There's no reason for the neglect, really. I'm still running. I'm still spinning on Wednesdays. I'm still doing the elliptical and doing some strength training a day or two a week. Still working on speed by doing intervals on the 'mill one day a week. I finally feel like I'm doing the things that I should have been doing all along. And my pace is showing it. I had a 5-mile tempo run last night, and that run ended up being only a few seconds off from my 5-mile race pace from only about six weeks ago, and I definitely could have kept going had my plan called for a 6- or 7-mile tempo. I was able to kick the 'mill intervals up by a couple tenths of a MPH last week. I'm doing my long runs with no walk breaks. I guess I just feel like I'm slowly and steadily becoming a stronger runner.
I've got a few races coming up within the next month and a half. I'm kind of curious to see how I can perform. Next weekend I have another 5K. I don't expect there to be just a lot of improvement since my last one, the Cupid's Chase from only four weeks ago, but I bet there'll be some. If I can just take 0.96 seconds off and get that sub-28 I'll be thrilled. Then in April I've got two half-marathons. I've got a goal floating around in my head for one of those, but I'm still not sure how that's going to pan out. It looks like a friend will be running the first one with me, so I'm thinking I will end up running one for fun and racing the other one. We'll see.
In short, I'm running and I'm doing it faster than ever and I feel great doing it. Yay!Labels: improvement
